Season 2019/2020 Kicks Off Friday 2nd of August

Welcome back!!

There’s now just over ONE WEEK until the new season kicks off.

The rules will be the same as last year. The entry ‘fee’ will remain at a £1.50. The scoring system will remain at 5-3-2-0.

There’s a sheet on the Notice Board at Club looking for people who are willing to commit to the WHOLE SEASON. Obviously, dipping in and dipping out will still be available but this makes weekly prizes difficult to predict/publicise beforehand.

The ‘sheet’ for people to enter their WEEK ONE scores is behind the bar. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE MONEY BEHIND THE BAR. We accept cash payments (one-to-one) or bank transfer (just ask for account number/sort code). We even have a wee contactless card-reader for quick& easy card payments.

We have an email address for queries, score submissions etc etc. Click link here, or just type GBCFootballSweep@gmail.com in the “To:” field

Scores can be submitted via our web pages … https://gbcfootballsweep.sport.blog/submit-scores/

News, Weekly Updates, Scores etc will be published on our …

WEEK 41 & END-of-SEASON results….

In the race to win Week 41 spoils, Graeme Patullo shrugged off a late challenge from Ian Murray. Ian’s 1-1 Cup Final prediction looked like earning him a share of the money until Odsonne Edouard’s 82nd-minute winner spoiled the party.

The same equaliser also ended John Fletcher’s bold bid to overhaul Graeme Patullo and finish the season in 3rd place. John had swapped his score to 2-1 Hearts, and this looked a distinct possibility after Ryan Edward’s had put the Jambos ahead, only for Edouard to equalise from the penalty spot (“Don’t mention penalty spot!” yelled by every Dundee United suppporter) 10 minutes later.

So, Graeme Patullo wins the money this week, seven points ahead of Ian Murray, Brian Barnett and Wattie.

In the race for end-of-season prizes, the Top 3 were…

  1. David Imlay ……… 494 points
  2. Ian Murray ……….. 483 points
  3. Graeme Patullo …. 473 points

A more in-depth analysis of the whole season will be produced in the next few days.

In the end, £1,344 was given out in prize-money – broken down into £1,075 to our Weekly Winners and £269 to the End-of-Season Winners.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Sweep throughout the long, dark winter days and nights.

Season 2019/20 starts in Scotland on 3rd of August (fixtures announced on 19th June). English Premiership commences on 10th of August (fixtures announced on 13th June).

We hope to run the GBC Football Sweep again next year. Anyone with suggestions as to how it can be improved please feel free to bring them up any time (For example, I’ve been thinking that awarding 3½ points for a correct DRAW result?)

End of Season Standings

Week 41 – after 7 matches

7/8th of the way thru Week 41 and we have jeopardy!!!

Grahame Potato leads with 18 points.

5 points behind is Ian Murray (13 points)

Fletch and Wattie are joint-3rd (11 points) whilst Alfie completes the top 5 with 10 points.

That means, with only the Scottish Cup Final (SCF) to play, GP can only be caught by Ian Murray.

As per last week’s utterances, any scores entered for the Cup Final CAN BE ALTERED IF THE PERSON DESIRES.

This ‘rule’ only harms ONE PERSON – ME!!!!

In the race for the end-of-season prizemoney, David Imlay is officially uncatchable at the top.

Ian Murray is uncatchable in 2nd-place.

However, the race for 3rd-place John Fletcher can STILL pip Grim Portaloo, but only if he correctly predicts the score of the Scottish Cup Final and IF GP scores zero points!

Yet again, by allowing previously-entered scores to be altered, this is also to the detriment of the organiser.

Further down the Leaderboard, many positions can change with the result of the SCF. Loads of people are within a handful of points of the people above/below them.

Anne Baptie can still submit her score for the SCF and therefore thwart a last-minute surge from her brother (IanB). Family honour is at stake!

So, ANYBODY who wants to change their scores for next weekend’s cup final can do so.

I am at liberty to say that, using the scores already submitted, 13 people have opted for a Celtic win and 3 have opted for a Jambos win. Nobody thinks it’ll be a draw

Week 41 – after 7 games
Leaderboard – 7/8th of way thru Week 41

Week 41 – after 3 matches..

Graeme Patullo leads with 9 points.

Eric Barty (7 points) is in 2nd-place. Alfie is 3rd with 6 points.

Dave I and Ian M both have 4 points, so Dave maintains his 14-point lead going into the final 5 matches of the season. As a matter of fact, I can HEREBY ANNOUNCE THAT DAVID IMLAY CANNOT BE CAUGHT in the race for the end-of-season.

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID!!!

Week 41 – after 3 matches

Week 40 – RESULT

Dave Stephen strolls to a 4-point victory …

St Mirren 2 – 0 Hamilton

… a score which our long-time leader, Dave Stephen (22 points), had actually predicted last Tuesday!

So, that 96th-minute goal has given Dave his third win of the season, making him the 5th-highest money-winner of the season – so far – despite languishing in 17th position on our leaderboard.

Alfie continues his charge up the leaderboard, finishing the weekend in 2nd-place, with a creditable 18 points (4 behind Dave).

Ian Murray and Mally complete this week’s Top 3 (actually 4), both scoring 16 points.

In the race for the End-of-Season title, David Imlay’s lead is down to 14 points.

Ian Murray continues his efforts to regain top-spot and looks to have 2nd-place (at least) sewn up.

All the excitement comes below our top 2 with the next seven places only separated by 11 points.

John Fletcher is still favourite to secure 3rd place, but an excellent week for either Mally, G-Pat, Craig, Alfie, Shug or Adam could see Big John being overtaken.

Also, bear in mind that John Fletcher isn’t even in the country this week and with his propensity to leave things until the last minute and with a 7-hour time difference to cope with, there’s a fair chance he won’t even get his scores in all!!!

ONE WEEK TO GO. ONLY TOP 3 CAN WIN PRIZE-MONEY. So many permutations…

End-of-Season PRIZE-MONEY HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED…

1st place – £135
2nd place – £80
3rd place – £54

Week 40 – Result
Leaderboard – after Week 40

Week 40 – after 7 matches …

Rangers 2-0 Celtic
Brighton 1-4 Man City
Liverpool 2-0 Wolves

Seven matches down and Dave Stephen has strengthened his position at the top oft the Week 40 table

Dave takes a 3-point lead into the final game of the weekend

Possible outcomes (depending on result of St Mirren v Hamilton) ….
1-0 … Dave and IanM share the money
1-1 … Adam wins the money
1-2 … Shug wins

Any other score gives the victory to Dave.

In the race for the end-of-season prizes, David Imlay grabbed a late 5 points when spotting the Liverpool score and takes a 14-point lead into the final nine matches

Week 40 – after 7 matches

Week 40 – after 4 matches

After 4 of this weekend’s matches, Dave Stephen leads the race (12 points)

Ian Murray and Adam Dewar are hot on his heels, both have 10 points.

Shug and Alfie complete the Top 5 (7 points each)

The result of tomorrow’s Rangers – Celtic clash MIGHT go a long way to determining the destination of this weekend’s prize fund. From this week’s Top 5, we have 1 x Draw, 2 x Away, 2 x Home

Correct scores might also help in the 2 English matches tomorrow, although Dave S has gone a little bit “all in” by predicting a BRIGHTON VICTORY!!

Week 40 – after 4 matches

Week 39 Result

Adam Dewar secures victory with 18 points …

As predicted, bookies’ favourite, Adam Dewar held onto his lead after Man City defeated Leicester in the final game of the weekend.

Nobody predicted the correct score, so everyone (apart from GMac and Dave Stephen) scored 2 points

Adam’s total of 18 points gave him a clear 4-point victory over GMac and GPat.

In the race for end-of-season spoils, Dave Imlay extended his lead at the top to 17 points.

Ian Murray remains in 2nd place, 9 points ahead of his nearest challengers.

GPat jumped 2 places to join John Fletcher in 3rd place, with Craig a further 3 points behind.

Mally, Shug, Adam and Alfie look to be the only other people still in with a realistic chance of reaching the top 3 (after which the money runs out)

Week 39 Result
Leaderboard after Week 39

Week 39 (after 7 matches)

Rangers 1 – 0 Hibs

GMac, by correctly predicting the score of the Rangers – Hibs match, has ensured that this weekend’s result will be decided by the 8th match (Man City v Leicester)

GMac needs ANY away win to share the money, and a 2-1 win for the Foxes will give him the whole pot.

Any other result and Adam wins the money…
